← Midnight MythosTerms of use
IN FORCE FROM 5 AUGUST 2026
Midnight Mythos is a single-player game that uses large language models to run tabletop-style investigations. You bring a scenario; the app runs it for you, rolls the dice, and keeps the record. These terms cover what you may upload, what we do with it, and how to get rid of it.
Scenarios you upload
You may upload a scenario you have lawfully obtained a copy of — one you bought, one you were given by its publisher, one released for free, one in the public domain, or one you wrote yourself — for the purpose of playing it yourself in this app.
FOR EXAMPLE
- A commercial scenario you purchased, in print or as a PDF, from its publisher or a retailer.
- A scenario included in a book or boxed set you own.
- A free or promotional scenario released by its publisher.
- A scenario in the public domain, or one you wrote yourself.
WHAT YOU MAY NOT UPLOAD
- Anything you obtained from a file-sharing site, a pirate archive, or a copy passed on to you by someone who did not have the right to pass it on.
- Anything you are contractually forbidden to reproduce, such as material under a review embargo or a non-disclosure agreement.
- Anything unlawful to possess, and anything containing another person's private information.
You are responsible for having the rights to what you upload. We do not and cannot verify it, and we do not ask for proof of purchase. If you upload something you had no right to, that is on you — and we will remove it on notice.
Your upload is private to your account. It is never shown to another player, never added to a shared library, never offered for download, and never sold. There is no mechanism in this app to publish a scenario to anyone else, by design.
What happens to a scenario you upload
- The text is extracted from your PDF in your own browser. The PDF file itself is not uploaded.
- That text is sent to our model provider, which passes it to the AI model that prepares the scenario notes. It is processed under that provider's terms and is not used by us to train anything.
- The prepared notes are stored against your account so the game can read them on every turn. They are not regenerated and not re-sent anywhere else.
- A small number of pages that look like player handouts are turned into images in your browser and stored, so the game can show you the real handout instead of inventing one.
- Your play record — the narrative, dice results, character sheets and notes — is stored against your account.
Keeping and deleting
- Burning a campaign deletes its stored notes, its play record and its stored images.
- Closing your account from Settings deletes your campaigns, characters, uploads and generated pictures, cancels any subscription, and refunds the unused part of the period you have paid for. You can also ask us to do it.
- We keep no separate archive of your uploads for our own use.
- Records of payments and credits are kept for as long as tax law requires, even after an account is closed.
Your rights, and ours
- You keep every right you already had in anything you upload. We claim nothing in it.
- You grant us only the permission needed to run the app for you: to process, store and display your material back to you.
- What the app generates during your game is yours to keep and use. Bear in mind it may be shaped by material you uploaded, whose rights belong to its publisher.
- The rules the app plays by are licensed, and our adaptation of them is offered onward under the same licence — see the licence and attribution page.
The rules themselves are licensed material — licence & attribution.
Accounts
- You need an account to play. Sign-in is by emailed link; we hold your email address and your saved games.
- One account is for one person. Do not share your sign-in link.
- We may suspend an account that is being used to attack the service, to run up cost automatically, or to upload material it has no right to.
Paying for the game
Playing costs credits, because every turn asks an AI model to write, adjudicate or draw something and that has a real cost. A new account is given 100 credits once, free, with no card required. Beyond that you can subscribe or buy credits outright.
- A subscription includes 420 credits for each billing period. Unused allowance does not carry over to the next period — it is an allowance, not a balance.
- Credit packs (150 or 500 credits) are bought outright and never expire.
- Your subscription allowance is always spent before your purchased credits, so the credits that expire are used first and the ones you paid for outright are kept for as long as possible.
- Prices are in US dollars. Any VAT or sales tax that applies is calculated at checkout according to where you are, and the total you pay is always shown before you confirm. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
CANCELLING
You can cancel a subscription at any time from your account. Access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for, and it is not renewed after that. Purchased credits are unaffected by cancelling — they are yours, and they stay in the account.
REFUNDS
- Credit packs are refundable. Write to us and we will refund the purchase.
- A refund removes the credits from that purchase which you still have. If you had already spent some of them, we do not take your balance below zero and we do not ask you to pay the difference — the cost of what you played was ours to carry.
- Cancelling a subscription is not the same as closing your account. Cancel and you keep access until the period you have paid for ends, and nothing is refunded — you are using what you bought.
- Close your account, though, and we refund the unused part of the current period, because you are giving up the access rather than using it.
- If something went wrong — a turn that failed, a picture that never arrived, a charge you do not recognise — write to us before raising a dispute with your bank. We would far rather fix it directly, and we can do it faster.
IF A PAYMENT FAILS
If a subscription payment fails we keep your allowance available for a short grace period while the payment is retried, and your purchased credits stay usable throughout — you paid for those already, and a problem with a card should not take them away.
If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase. Credits are digital content delivered immediately, and by completing a purchase you ask us to deliver them at once and accept that the 14-day right ends once we have. This does not affect the refund policy above, which is more generous, and it does not affect your rights if something we sold you was faulty or not as described.
What a subscription or a pack includes may change over time. Any change applies to future purchases and future periods; credits already in your account are never rewritten or taken back.
Generated content
The narration, images and adjudication in this app are generated by AI models and can be wrong, inconsistent, or unsettling — this is a horror game, and distressing content is part of it. Nothing generated here is advice of any kind. You control the tone through the difficulty setting, and you can stop or burn a campaign at any time.
If you hold rights in something uploaded here
If you hold rights in a work and believe it has been uploaded here without permission, write to hello@midnight-mythos.com with the work, the rights you hold, and how to reach you. We will remove the material and, where appropriate, close the account responsible. We do not require a court order to act.
Availability and liability
The service is provided as it stands. We do not guarantee that it will be available, that a model provider will answer, or that a saved game will survive a failure at a provider we depend on. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from use of the service. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot lawfully be limited — including, if you are a consumer, your statutory rights.
Changes
These terms may change as the app does. The date at the top of this page is the date of the version in force. Continuing to use the app after a change means the new terms apply.
